CERs from Brazilian biomass
BK Energia’s 9-megawatt power plant in Brazil provides the city of Itacoatiara and the production site of Precious Woods Amazon with a total of 6 MW of electricity and steam for seasoning. All of the power plant’s electricity is generated from the waste timber of the PW Amazon sawmill, i.e., renewable biomass.
It produced a total of 51 596 tons of CO2 equivalents in 2017, which amounts to a decrease of 3.6 % compared with the previous year.
The biomass power plant will continue to play an important role for Precious Woods: firstly from an operational perspective (inexpensive electricity and heat supply), secondly due to the opportunity to sell waste timber products, and thirdly because complete utilization of the harvested wood makes a contribution to avoiding CO2 emissions.
